Exploris Grade 8
Wilmington today! HUGE thank you to ALL parents for helping us pull off an amazing field experience today. Parents emailed attendance updates, were flexible with pickup, drove 4 hours and walked a ton with us, and some even made some car repairs to make it back to Raleigh safe and sound. Ask your child about today. It was amazing!
School Supplies: Please help us. Kids need their own pair of earbuds or earphones. When we assign work that requires watching a video, at least 10 students are without earbuds in each rotation. That’s roughly ⅓ of our students who lose learning time because they cannot find or locate their supplies for class. Please ensure your child has a working pair of earbuds when we return from break. (Also, a few pencils, pens, and highlighters as needed.) THANK YOU!
UDHR RESCHEDULED (new date, new time, new location): Wednesday, December 19 12:30 Court of Appeals, 1 West Morgan Street
On Wednesday, December 19th our 8th grade students will carry out a tradition that is over 17 years old: reciting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the Court of Appeals at 12:30. This is a very special honor that Dan Figgins, a member of the NC Chapter of the UN, has enthusiastically given to our Exploris students. Students memorized their lines and created a special slideshow in support of their presentation. Parents and the larger Exploris community are welcome to join us for presentations!
*Students need to come dressed in presentation attire on Wednesday. We will walk to the court of appeals to prepare for our presentation around 11:15 and return by 1:30 for global arts.
Exploris Capital Campaign
As we wrap up 2018 I invite you to think back on your experiences with Exploris. What impressed you about the school? What did your student learn at Exploris that they might not have learned at a traditional school? What field experiences did they take that opened their eyes to things that didn’t know before?
Think about those things as you consider contributing to the Exploris Capital Campaign. Your contributions will help us open the doors for the new building and ensure that many more students can take advantage of those same experiences that your student had.
We know that December is a tough time to make a contribution. You’ve got the holidays, and teacher gifts, and possibly travel or extra child care expenses because of the school break. If you can’t make a contribution now, please make a pledge! You can do both at https://www.exploris.org/capital-campaign-giving/.
Thank you! Enjoy the break! And stay tuned for our classroom competitions in January! If you have any questions about the Capital Campaign, contact Kristi Pettibone at firstname.lastname@example.org
Attendance Reminders: ‘Tis the season for colds and flus. Just a reminder that when you email to your crew teacher to let him/her know about absences also email email@example.com.
