Exploris Grade 8

This week we are wrapping up our study of Fever and continuing our Design for Change projects around a water issue.

Team Reminders:

SIGN UP FOR OUTWARD BOUND NOW! The portal is live! Please complete Step 1 by Friday, November 19!

Step 1: Please email each family the link below to sign up their child for Outward Bound. This is the first step in a 2 step process!

The Exploris School Outward Bound Sign-Up

Families will need to complete this preliminary enrollment process and answer a few health history questions, then submit. This process takes 1-2 minutes.

Upon submission of the sign-up application, families should expect to receive a Welcome Email with a link to their personalized Applicant Portal (within 48 business hours), which is where they will find all the required Outward Bound forms to complete (Step 2). Families are typically given 1 week to complete their Outward Bound forms. Additional information may be sought upon submission of forms. If that’s the case, Outward Bound will work individually with families to set any additional paperwork deadlines.

Families should plan to use a device larger than a smartphone (such as a tablet or laptop) to complete the Step 2 Outward Bound forms on their Applicant Portals. Portals will not show up on a smartphone.

Note that each student’s Applicant Portal will also have a link to the following web page:

Outward Bound Update: We have confirmed Outward Bound dates for the week of April 18 – 22, 2022! We are working on scheduling a parent night with them in November for you to ask questions. Total cost is $900. Top priority right now is payments or a scholarship application (pay online here) or Scholarship Application A total of $600 is due Friday, November 19. You should have received an update on your cost yesterday or today!

Christmas Parade Fundraiser — The Raleigh Christmas Parade is Saturday, November 20. The route goes in front of Exploris, so in years past we’ve had families sell donuts and hot chocolate as a fundraiser towards Outward Bound. We would like to do that again this year, with the added idea of having a table of other crafts or cookies individuals would like to sell. Jill Lamb is heading this up, so please reach out to her if you’re interested in helping to coordinate this effort!

  • Exploris School Volunteer Form/Survey: In an effort to update our Volunteer Processes, we are sending out the following form linked here. We’re hoping that gathering this information will help us to create an active volunteer pool here at The Exploris School that includes appropriate training, background checks and streamline communication. Our volunteers are able to experience firsthand our school environment and enrich our school community with their ideas, interests, talents and resources. We rely heavily on the help of Exploris families to do all that we do. We would love to partner with you to build community and enriching experiences for our students!

Club Updates:

Ultimate Frisbee: We are pleased to announce the Exploris Ultimate Team is reorganizing for a winter season.  Ultimate is a fast-paced game that brings elements of basketball, football, and soccer together with the best kind of ball you will ever throw–a flatball!  It is a non-contact sport that is played on a field (usually outdoors), and involves running, catching, and throwing for everyone on the field.  We are having an organizational meeting after school on Wednesday 11/17 in Room 8S, Exploris Middle School (masks are required indoors).  The team is open to all students, and students and parents are welcome to come to the organizational meeting.  Our goal will be two practices a week (tentatively Monday and Wednesday afternoons, 3:30-5:00 at the Legislative Fields in Downtown), and games or scrimmages on the weekends.  For more information, please contact Michael Reiskind, who will be serving as coach/advisor for this season:, ph: 734-996-9692.
