Exploris Grade 8

We had a great, busy week. Thank you for all your support this week as we wrap our work for 2021!

Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Thank you for attending our annual Universal Human RIghts Recitation by The Exploris Class of 2022. This is a time-honored tradition the 8th grade has been hosting for 18 years. If you weren’t able to attend…never fear…we have recorded it! Here is the link to watch a recitation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Happy Birthday, Human Rights! 🌎

OUTWARD BOUND PREP and UPDATES:

  • Boots – The Holidays are a great time to purchase boots for Outward Bound, so you have time to break them in. If your child is in a serious growth spurt, though, you should wait till about a month out so they are not too small! 🙂
  • Outward Bound Course – Preparation Information This is an official OB page for Exploris.  Their official packing list is posted on this page.  We have found students DO NOT need everything on this list. Our version of the packing list.
  • 2018 Outward Bound Pics
  • SIGN UP FOR OUTWARD BOUND NOW! The Exploris School Outward Bound Sign-Up
  • We have 48 students in the portal, but we need everyone to go ahead and do step 1 to get the process started! Many of you are overdue on Step 2. Please work on getting that paperwork completed, if needed. Crew teachers will reach out in the new year with another payment update and final payment info. The final total of $900 (another $300 payment) is due January 14, 2022 for your planning purposes.
  • Covid Protocols for OB
  • Payment of $600 total is overdue: (pay online here) or Scholarship Application
  • We are still working on scheduling a parent meeting with Outward Bound.

High School Corner: Parents please update us if you have new information

WCPSS Base – Directly through the base school’s Student Services

  • Most do not start enrollment in Spring – No action needed now.  Orientations in spring and summer.  We will get you connected to other 8th grade families attending the same base so you can coordinate a session with their student services.

Exploris Support for High School Transition:

Updates from Admin:

  • Buy yours today at Yearbook at Jostens.  Maybe add a gift certificate as a stocking stuffer for that hard-to-buy-for kid?
  • Deadline for personal tribute ads for yearbook is Jan. 10th.  ALL families are invited to purchase an ad to honor/thank their scholar, their teachers, etc.  Go to Yearbook at Jostens for the easy process to upload pictures and design your ad!
  • Friday December 17th will be modified from an early release day to a full vacation day.
  • Dear Exploris Families, our best advertisement is YOU! Please share with your networks and any interested families this information about Exploris’s open houses and lottery: Looking for a free, public k-8 school with a hands-on approach, strong academics, values of social & environmental justice, and firm belief that kids can change the world? Check out www.Exploris.org ! Applications for the 2022-2023 school year are open!
  • In preparation for closing the school for Winter Break, please take a moment to have your child/children look through the lost and found. We have a plethora of water bottles and sweatshirts! These items will be donated on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Thank you!
