Wednesday, May 9th, is National Bike to School Day and Exploris is participating. Remi Wingo and Royden Saah, 7th grade parent, will supervise a cycling group of students from Whole Foods Market parking lot on Wade Ave to Exploris Middle School on Wednesday, May 9th, at 7:30am. We invite any Exploris middle school student to join us. You must provide your own bicycle and helmet. We will bike on neighborhood roads and avoid busy roads as much as possible. If we have more than 10 students sign up, then we will seek additional adult supervision from staff and/or parents. If you, as a student or parent, are interested in joining us, please contact Remi Wingo at rwingo@exploris.org. We hope this one-day event will lead to a regular cycling commuter group to Exploris.

EOG Proctor Information: Thank you to everyone who has headed the call to proctor for EOGs!  We still need some more help, specifically at the middle school on May 30th and at both campuses on May 31st. Those are the days when most 3rd-8th graders will test. Please click here to sign up to proctor!   If you did sign up, the state requires that you be trained each year before you can proctor.  Please plan to attend one of the following training meetings. Meeting should not last more than 30 minutes.

Proctor Training Dates:

Tuesday May 8th 8:30 at the Elementary School

Thursday May 10th 3:30 at the Middle School

Click here to sign up for a training meeting.

Helpful Tips for EOGs:

  • Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and is well-rested.
  • Feed them a good breakfast!
  • NO smart watches are allowed in the testing room.  If your child has a smart watch or watch with an alarm, please leave them at home!

Diaper Drive – Now through FRIDAY May 4th The Helping Hands Service Learning group has been working with the Saints Saviors Center to help the disenfranchised members of our community by serving meals, collecting canned goods, and packing diapers. The Diaper Train is a program to help working parents of young children who can’t afford diapers. They are kicking off a Diaper Drive to help these families! Please consider donating:

  • 6th graders to provide size 4 diapers
  • 7th graders to provide size 5 diapers
  • 8th graders to provide size 6 diapers

Other sizes are greatly appreciated too, but these sizes are in the greatest need as most donations tend to be for small babies. Drop off spots will be outside of Sixth West, Seventh Grade will be outside of the teachers office and the last spot will be in the Eighth Grade hallway. This diaper dive will continue until Friday May 4th…Monday, May 8th we will announce the winner! The winning grade that donates the most diapers will either receive a pizza lunch or a Krispy Kreme breakfast!

HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION

Millbrook High School SGA – Are you attending Millbrook High School next year? Wondering the best way to get involved? Think about joining Millbrook’s Student Government in Freshman Class Council! In Class Council, we make real improvements to the school, planning dances, school celebrations and assemblies and volunteering on campus and in the community. Millbrook is a big school, and SGA is a great way to have an instant circle of friends who have common interests and values.

  • Want to learn more? Look for us at the Rising 9th Grade Open House at Millbrook Thursday 5/17 from 6:30-7:30 pm or at CATs Camp just before the start of next school year! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to lkost@wcpss.net.

Summer Camp Opportunity: We wanted to be sure you are all aware of the opportunity to apply to the Teen Leadership & Service Summer Program! These could be teens who are participating in leadership programs. Scholarships may become available and will be awarded on a case-by-case basis, and will be based on supplied household income and each teen’s Power Profile in the application. You can find more Program info and policies, and teens can begin the application process here: https://activategood.org/teen-summer-program.  Questions, contact: Krystal Hare
